Day 253 - In Detroit, we get power-outage days!
So when I arrive at school for a 9:30 meeting to find students standing around outside due to the power going out 10 minutes into lecture this morning, this is simultaneously fortuitous (I have online lectures I wanted to watch today), annoying (Gas is 2.90) and utterly derailing (I had three time-sensitive things I needed to get done.)

However, this also means I get to sit at home for awhile and drink up my DSL lifeblood.

[info]turnberryknkn made this post, designed to send anyone who been through more than one chemistry lab into fits of laughter. For extra amusement, note the post's music selection.

And then, the most flagrant abuse of an email system I've ever seen. In the space of an hour, these three emails:
"Please sign and forward to everyone you know!! Sign Now to Lower Gas Prices!
http://mi.gov/som/0,1607,7-192--141415--,00.html"

"This is inappropriate use of the university mail system"

"I'm sorry, I disagree. It's very important that issues which effect us as a whole be supported. We're fighting a war in a country loaded with oil and young men and women are losing their lives every day. Yet we're paying this price for gas! Houston, we have a problem!"

Were sent out to EVERY SINGLE list-serv associated with Wayne State's school of medicine - every staff member, every student, resident, and alumni. The word count of the "To" block of the email was 2,798. Averaging 5 words per listerv, ie "Academic and Student Programs - All Faculty" - that's approximately 560 lists, with at least 10-20 per list, or 250+, in cases of the student lists...

I'm surprised nobody's gotten the torches & pitchforks out yet.

EDIT: And now my roomate's come up with the theory that the combined mass of stupid in these emails overloaded the servers, causing a domino effect and the power outage this morning. Probably not accurate, but it's what I'm going with for now.
